Description
The Musar Tradition
From the storied cellars of Chateau Musar comes an arak of exceptional character and maturity. Produced in the Bekaa Valley, the base spirit is crafted from high-quality grape alcohol with an impressive average age of five years before the final distillation process even begins.
Artisanal Distillation & Amphora Aging
The production of Arak Chateau Musar is a slow, deliberate art:
Triple Distillation: The spirit is distilled three times in traditional copper stills. During the final distillation, carefully selected aniseed is added to infuse the spirit with its essential oils and fragrant heart.
Terracotta Maturation: Unlike many spirits, this arak is aged for one full year in traditional terracotta amphorae. This porous clay allows the spirit to breathe and interact with the vessel, imparting distinct liquorice aromas and a rounded, mellow complexity.
The Result: The aging process creates a spirit that is surprisingly smooth and sweet on the tongue, with a concentrated anise flavor and a dry, silky finish.
The Connoisseur’s Serving
With its 53% ABV and soft texture, Arak Chateau Musar offers more versatility than traditional spirits. While it is customary to mix it with water (the traditional louche), its five-year base and amphora aging make it smooth enough to be sipped neat as a sophisticated digestif. When mixing, a ratio of 1 part arak to 2 parts water is recommended to fully unlock its aromatic sweetness.
